She had flights booked, hotel reservations she couldn't cancel, and suddenly no way to cover the distances she'd planned to walk.

She had tried everywhere. Hospital wheelchair rentals close at night. Pharmacies don't carry them. Hotel concierges shrugged. Her trip was, in her own words, "basically over."
